Kunzite was named after the pioneering gemologist George Frederick Kunz, who identified the gemstone as a new variety of spodumene. Collectors love kunzite for its color range, which varies from a pastel pink to an intense violet purple. It gets its color from trace amounts of manganese found within the gemstone. It’s a pleochroic gemstone, which means it can display different colors in different crystal directions, with the best color being visible when you look down the length of the crystal. It is not uncommon to find the gem in large sizes with few inclusions. It can be found in Afghanistan, Brazil, Madagascar and the United States.
Adorning the center of our beautiful handmade ring is a faceted kunzite weighing 11.62 carats. The gorgeous gemstone dazzles the eye with its intense light purple color and excellent clarity. Surrounding the center stone are two rows of pave set diamonds that sit atop of the basket of the ring. The shank of the ring begins as one solid form at the bottom but then splits into three parts as it ascends to join the basket of the ring, diamonds are pave set up the side of the shank bringing the total diamond weight to 2.31 carats. The ring itself is fabricated out of platinum and 18K white gold, creating a unique marriage of metals.
